Golden Jaguars squad for St Vincent World Cup Qualifiers named

Some 13 overseas-born and/or based players have been named by Head-Coach Jamal Shabazz in the Golden Jaguars 21-member playing roster for their 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers yesterday.

Guyana will open its FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign away from home on Wednesday against St. Vincent and Grenadines at the Arnos Vale Stadium from 15:30hrs. They will then contest the return leg four days later at the National Stadium in Providence.

Unlike previous qualification tournaments, CONCACAF has opted to make the first three rounds of the event elimination matchups with the fourth and final round utilizing a group format.

The selected squad reads:-Goalkeepers Akel Clarke (Central FC) and Derrick Carter (Western Tigers), Defenders Matthew Briggs (Millwall FC), Sam Cox (overseas), Colin Nelson (Slingerz FC), Dwayne Jacobs (Slingerz FC), Adrian Butters (Toronto FC) and Jamal Smith (Alpha United) Midfielders Ricky Shakes (Boreham Wood FC), Neil Danns (Bolton Wanderers), Walter Moore (FF Jaro), Trayon Bobb (Caledonia AIA), Chris Nurse (Carolina Railhawks),Brandon Beresford (Canada), Kanata Manning (Alpha United), Vurlon Mills (Slingerz FC) and Eon Alleyne (Guyana Defence Force), Forwards Emery Welshman (Real Monarchs), Marcel Barrington (Overseas), Daniel Wilson (Alpha United) and Sheldon Holder (Alpha United).

Those failing to make the final team were Chris Camacho (Alpha United), King Solomon Austin (Slingerz FC)Joshua Brown (Slingerz FC), Pernel Shultz (Caledonia AIA), Kevin Beaton (USA), Daniel Whyte (Canada), Anthony Whyte (Canada), Matthew Allick and Clive Nobrega (Slingerz FC).

In the case of Nobrega, his red card in the previous international friendly against Suriname meant he had to serve a one-match suspension. The team is expected to depart local shores tomorrow.

Wayne Dover remains the Assistant Coach while Andrew Hazel, Trevor Burnett and Anson Ambrose will serve as Goalkeeper Coach, Equipment Manager and Trainer respectively.

Mark Xavier and Faizal Khan will occupy the respective Team Manager positions whole Duane Saunders and Beverly Nelson are the Physiotherapists.
