Confused teen remanded on break and enter charge

A teenager who appeared to be confused was on Friday remanded to prison after he appeared in a city court charged with breaking and entering the house of another and stealing a quantity of valuables.

once stated that he committed the offence and said he wouldn’t do it again but after further questioned by the court, he denied that he did it. He also responded in English to court but later told the magistrate he did not understand what was happening and did not know English. As a result, a not guilty plea was recorded.

The allegation against Charlie, as stated by Prosecutor Simone Payne is that between May 11 and 31, at Johanna Village, he broke and entered the house of Dawn Williams and stole a quantity of valuables, including a DVD player, a quantity of gold jewellery, a cellular phone and others amounting to a total value of $127,000.

The accused was unrepresented and the court also heard that some of the items were recovered in his house.

Charlie was refused bail and is expected to make his next court appearance today before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. On this date, an interpreter will be present in court to assist him.
