Sophia father of five charged over polling day looting

A Sophia resident was yesterday slapped with four simple larceny charges over the Election Day looting at ‘C’ Field Sophia.

Timothy Fraser, 33, of ‘C’ Field Sophia, pleaded not guilty to all four charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Zamilla Ali at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

Fraser, who is a father of five, was accused of stealing a quantity of electronics from Farida Prashad, Antonio Prashad, Ledouska Prashad, and Shafeeze Prashad. The electronics he stole were valued at $263,000.

Prosecutor Sherlock King did not object to bail and Fraser was placed on $35,000 bail on each of the charges. He will return to court on July 31.

Six persons have now been charged in relation to the looting at Sophia. The persons that were charged in May were Lloyd Grant, Orandel Noel, Melroy Weekes, Clive Baird and a 16-year-old.

The unrest erupted after a rumour spread that ballot boxes were in the PPP/C Command Centre located in the area.
