Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited has begun preliminary work which will see the bank serving the East Coast community at Triumph.
This disclosure was made by outgoing Managing Director, John Alves at a recent ceremony to welcome his successor, Richard Sammy, who will officially assume office on July 1, 2015.
A release from the bank yesterday said that Chairman of the Board of Directors Nigel Baptiste in an address at the ceremony to also bid farewell to Alves, described the Managing Director Designate as “forward-thinking, solution-seeking and someone who identifies and addresses challenges”.
Baptiste added that Sammy joined the Republic Bank family six years ago and brought significant experience in Finance, Risk, Leadership and Customer Relations.
The Chairman, himself a former Managing Director of the Guyana operations, expressed confidence that Sammy would build solid partnerships in Guyana and “take customers’ business to another level”.
Sammy said that he looked forward to rising to the challenge of continuing the duty of care, the release said. He also committed to maintaining the Trinidad-based Bank’s social investments and to “staying the course of solid, consistent growth and profitability”. He also pledged to promote sound governance.
“I acknowledge that I am fortunate to be given this Leadership opportunity in an organization, which has achieved consistent and sustained growth over the years, amidst an escalating regulatory and fast-shifting environment”, Sammy said in his address.
Alves in his address expressed gratitude for his time with the Bank, noting that he had started in the profession on September 16, 1974 with the Royal Bank of Canada.
He identified a number of milestones that bore special significance for him including:
the establishing of branches at Diamond on the East Bank Demerara, Lethem in the Rupununi District; and most recently a modern new banking facility for the West Bank Berbice community at D’Edward Village. He also said that the bank has begun preliminary work that will see the institution serving the East Coast Demerara community from Triumph.
a new banking facility for Rose Hall is also on the agenda for the future.
the Power to Make a Difference community initiative under which the bank recently entered a new four-year period of commitments – totalling $200 million.
