Miner accused of chopping ex-wife’s boyfriend

A miner was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge that he severely chopped his ex-wife’s current beau, who has been left hospitalised.

The charge against Eldon Richardson, of North Ruimveldt Squatting Area, states that on July 1st, at North Ruimveldt, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Sherwin James with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or to cause him actual bodily harm.

Richardson, 37, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones informed the court that James has a relationship with Richardson’s ex-wife and it is due to this fact that an argument ensued between the two. He said Richardson inflicted several chops about James’ about his body.

Jones also said that James is still hospitalised for the injuries he sustained and as a result the prosecution would not be seeking to dispose of the matter summarily at present.

Richardson was refused bail and the case was adjourned to July 20th, when the accused will make his next court appearance before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
