Duo held over carjackings

The police on Friday arrested two men in connection with recent robberies which involve taxi drivers and charges will be laid shortly.

According to a press release, results from continuing investigations into a number of recent armed robberies in which taxi drivers were held up and their motor vehicles taken away, led to the arrest of two men on Friday. The men, the release stated, have been positively identified as the perpetrators in two robberies, involving the use of a firearm and an attempted robbery involving the use of knives.

The release further stated that the men were identified as those who robbed taxi driver Carlos Pollydore of his motor car on July 3 at ‘C’ field Sophia and Shabeer Mohamed, also a taxi driver, of his motor vehicle on May 29 at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD). They are also accused of attempting to rob Ryan Marks at ‘C’ Field Sophia on July 1 while being armed with knives.
