Top Cop cites expectation of greater accountability

Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud on Saturday told policemen and women that while the new APNU+AFC administration has signalled the provision of more resources there will be a greater demand for accountability.

According to GINA, the Top Cop was making remarks at the conclusion of the route march in observance of the 176th anniversary of the Guyana Police Force outside the Brickdam office of the Ministry of Public Security.

GINA said that the Commissioner thanked the officers for the work they had done especially during the election period.

He added that the new administration has indicated a lot of changes for the force: “these changes say to me that we will be resourced, we will have the tools that are necessary for us to do our jobs, that our welfare will be looked at…however there will be a greater demand on us for accountability and improved delivery of services.”

Persaud also called on the officers to do their best and serve the force with pride, which will in turn restore its good name. He said that standard operating procedures were developed and a lot of officers were trained in order to deliver the quality of service that the people expect.

He also reiterated that rogue cops must go stating that, “We have to get rid of those who damage the image of the force.” He encouraged the officers to stay away from such cops and to report them.
