Trial of woman accused of killing partner begins

The trial of Omeka Henry, who is accused of the fatal stabbing of her partner Wilkinson Halley, called ‘Winkie,’ began yesterday before Justice Dawn Gregory at the High Court.

Henry, who is on trial for manslaughter, allegedly killed 58-year-old Halley on October 30th, 2006, at Farm, Mahaicony.

During her court appearance yesterday, the unrepresented Henry sat and listened attentively to the testimony of the state’s witnesses.

Detective Deputy Superintendent Michael Kingston testified to taking Henry’s caution statement and noted that it was given freely and voluntarily without the use of violence or any form of inducements.

Several relatives of the accused were also called to testify, including the woman’s mother and sister.

The case is being prosecuted by State Attorney Orinthia Schmidt in association with Michael Sharoud.
