Decibel levels at night spots should be monitored

Dear Editor,

The Vice President and Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan’s decision to close the bars at 2am has elicited a range of responses. However, of equal if not greater concern is the noise that emanates from some of these night spots. Some of the venues are in the commercial zone and some are air conditioned. These pose no real threat to the quiet and enjoyment of the citizenry. However, there are a multitude of venues that pose a serious threat to persons’ right to peace and quiet.

I therefore suggest that the Minister may wish to engage the Commissioner of Police and the various Commanders on this lawlessness. They ought to monitor the decibel levels at these night spots and take appropriate action against the violators.

A good place to start is Station Street, Kitty.

Yours faithfully,
