Boy with cerebral palsy passes after five years in Paediatric ward

On Monday, Joshua Moonsammy died in the Paediatric Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after spending the last five years of his life as a resident there.

According to a press release from the GPHC, Moonsammy was abandoned by his mother after being diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Ever since, the management and staff of the hospital have been his caregivers.

Each year on his birthday, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Michael Khan spearheaded and funded a birthday celebration in Moonsammy’s honour and had the existing patients on each given year as guests.

Social activist, Mark Benschop who also visited Moonsammy on his birthdays also announced the young boy’s death on his Facebook page and simultaneously expressed his gratitude to the members of staff and donors for making special, the years the young patient spent in the institution.

Joshua Moonsammy would have celebrated his sixth birthday on December 22, 2015.
