Wisroc house destroyed by fire

A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed a two-bedroom house at Block 33, Wismar, Linden, on Wednesday. None of the occupants of the house was at home when the fire struck around 1700 hours.

According to Rudy Paul, who lives in the yard adjacent to the destroyed house, he went downstairs to cut some wood when he saw smoke emanating from the house next door.

Paul said that he immediately rushed across and pushed open the kitchen door of the house and immediately flames leapt at him, probably caused by the gush of air from the suddenly opened door.

Noting that the fire quickly consumed the wooden kitchen which was a recent addition to the house, which was owned by his step daughter, Rochelle Abrams, Paul said that he rushed back to his house while concerned residents in the neighbourhood called the Linden Police and Fire Service.

According to Paul, the blazing building was completely destroyed by the time the fire engine arrived on the scene about forty five minutes later. He said the fire caused several explosions in the burning building and the heat from the conflagration caused him to be concerned about his house also catching afire but public-spirited citizens used a hose and buckets to douse it and a Honda CRV 4 that was parked under his house.

Paul said that the vehicle is owned by Abrams’s 23-year-old son, who is in the interior. He said that Abrams recently commenced work with a gold mining company in the Issano Area and she was due to return to Linden on the day after the fire struck.
