Turning Point owner shot in gunfight with bandits

A city businessman was wounded last night during a shootout with three men who attacked him in an attempted robbery.

Collin McEwan, owner of Turning Point, located in South Ruimveldt, was up to press time this morning said to be in a stable condition while receiving treatment in the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital for gunshot injuries.

It was unclear if the bandits managed to escape with anything. An eyewitness said that he was next to McEwan when the men attacked. The men charged at McEwan and opened fire at him, the man said.

He added that the bandits may not have been aware that the businessman was armed with a licensed firearm and he fired at his attackers while retreating.

“Them man just come over he and start shoot and he pullout he gun and shoot, but then like he bullet finish,” the witness said.

The businessman was reportedly in company of friends playing dominoes when the bandits struck.

Based on what the eyewitness observed, he believed that at least two of the bandits were also shot.

After McEwan returned fire the bandits reportedly fled. At the hospital last evening, scores of relatives and friends gathered while McEwan’s wife collapsed upon arrival at the hospital.
