Man gets two-week sentence for assault on wife

Anthony Anand has been sentenced to two weeks in jail after admitting to assaulting his wife during an argument.

Magistrate Zamilla Ally yesterday imposed the sentence at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where Anand pleaded guilty to the charge that he assaulted Marlene Cofield on August 9th, 2015 at Cummings Lodge.

The prosecution’s case was that on the day in question, at around 8pm, Anand and Cofield had an argument, which resulted in him punching her several times to her face.

After Anand explained that he was sorry and that he would not make the same mistake, Magistrate Ally highlighted the fact that Cofield’s face was still badly swollen and imposed the sentence.
