Cabinet clears contract for GWI building

Cabinet has cleared the awarding of two contracts to the tune of just over $51M, more than half of which is for the construction of a building in the GWI Shelter Belt compound on Vlissengen Road.

Minister of State Joseph Harmon made the announcement yesterday at his post-Cabinet press briefing, held at the Ministry of Presidency.

Harmon said that no objections were offered for a contract valued $20, 522,348 for the supply of nitrogenous gas, oxygen and carbon dioxide to the Linden Hospital by the Friendship Oxygen Company Limited.

He said that $36, 631,955 for the construction of a new building for the Guyana Water Inc (GWI) in the Shelter Belt Compound has also been greenlighted.

This contract was awarded to Builders Hardware and General Supplies.

According to Harmon, government is looking closely at the management and delivery of essential services such as water and management of sewerage across the country. “We believe that this building will help in the institutional strengthening and delivery of services provided by the Guyana Water Inc.”, he said.
