Vendor accused of million-dollar theft from pushcart

Although she was allegedly found with some of the over $1 million in items stolen from the pushcart of a street vendor, one of the three accused denied committing the crime yesterday.

The accused, Ingrid Perreira, of 639 Mocha, East Bank Demerara, who is also a vendor, was accused of stealing $1,020,000 worth of articles on July 30th from the pushcart of Clair Grant.

Two others, Mark Griffith and Junior Allen, are also accused of the crime but only Perreira was charged yesterday.

City magistrate Ann McLennan heard that on July 30th, Grant had secured her stall at the Vendor’s Mall and she took her cart outside and left it in the street. When she returned, she discovered that a quantity of items was missing and she made a report to the police.

The report led the police to Perreira, who was found in the possession of a number of the stolen items and then later to Allen and Griffith, the court was told.

Magistrate McLennan set bail at $50,000 for Perriera and adjourned the case to September 4th.
