Attempted murder accused says he was out of country during attack

Seon Anderson, who is accused of attempted murder, told a city court on Thursday that he was being wrongfully charged with something that happened while he was out of the country.

The charge against Anderson stated that on July 30th, at Tucville, he discharged a loaded firearm at Desmond McPherson with the intent to kill him.

McPherson, 23, of Lot 1 Meadowbrook, was pulled from a drain at Tucville by a public-spirited citizen, who took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was shot.

A very loud Anderson, however, told Magistrate Ann McLennan that police visited his residence in Tucville and informed him that he was wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting. He further explained that when he got to the station, he was told that he was being charged with shooting McPherson. He added that after hearing that, he made a request to show the officers his passport, which he claims proves that he was not in the country at the time of the reported shooting. However, his request was denied. Anderson, who was ordered to lower his voice when speaking to the magistrate, went on to say that three persons have already been held in connection with the shooting. “My worship, he saying this person shoot he, that person shoot he, now he saying is I shoot he. But I didn’t shoot him. For all we know, musse Sean Hinds shoot him!” Anderson added. After requesting that Anderson’s passport be made available at the next hearing, Magistrate McLennan ordered that he be remanded to prison. He is due to make his next court appearance on September 7th before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

This did not sit well with Anderson, who informed the court that there are countless persons in jail who would jump at the opportunity to kill him.

“Now to the 7th is a long time your worship, a lot can happen from now to then. Next thing you see my dead body on the news,” he added. He continued venting his frustration until it reached a point where he had to be forcefully escorted out of the courtroom.

McPherson, a resident of Meadowbrook, was shot twice to his chest and was placed on life support at the GPH.   His family had suggested that he was shot because of a previous dispute.

McPherson was previously shot in May and two other men, Peter McKenzie and Darrel Sinclair, were separately charged with the crime afterward.
