Lusignan storeowner critical after being struck off bike

A Lusignan storeowner is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was struck yesterday while riding his motorbike at the corner of Cummings and Lamaha streets, in Georgetown.

Injured is Shanzin Khan, 47, of Lot 181 Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara. Khan is the owner of the Discount Palace variety store.

According to his wife, Annette Khan, her husband left home on a CBR motorcycle to transact business in Georgetown.

However, she said the driver of a car hit the bike at the corner of Cummings and Lamaha streets, causing Khan to fall some distance away. The unconscious man was then picked up and taken to the hospital by the driver.

Annette told Stabroek News that the father of two had undergone a CT scan that found that he sustained head injuries, including to his brain.

As a result, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Meanwhile, the driver of the car was later arrested by the police.
