Accused burglar gets bail after denying Laing Ave break-in

An accused burglar was on Friday released on $75,000 bail after telling a city court it was physically impossible for him to carry all the items he was accused of stealing.

“I can’t fetch all them thing by myself! Is what they think at all?”

Owen Kelvin, 57, of Lot 49 Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown declared after the charge was read against him.

Kelvin pleaded not guilty to a charge that on August 29, at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Iana Monroe and stole a quantity of electronics, totaling $755,000 in value.

The charge was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2.

Kelvin told the court that the items were left outside a yard by someone bearing the name “Popcaan” and when he saw them he decided to pick them up. “I pass and I say, ‘Wah all them things down here? Is best I tek it.’ And I did,” he said.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones had no objections to the defendant being granted his pre-trial liberty and bail was granted.

The matter was transferred to Court 11, where it is to be heard on September 9.
