Persaud, 43, of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was murdered in his home on Thursday morning.

While a laptop was stolen from Persaud’s home, both the police and his children are not convinced that robbery was the motive for his death.

Persaud was alone when his assailant, a man, entered the home and battered him with a brick and a hammer sometime between 9:30am and 10am.

Meanwhile, after the body was removed and Persaud’s three sons were cleaning their father’s house, they noticed the number “20” smeared in blood on the refrigerator door.

Their discovery gained significance after they were told that the post-mortem examination revealed that Persaud was hit 20 times to his head with a hammer.

Neighbours had reported seeing a strange man around the area inquiring about Persaud and they said he matched the description of the man who was seen exiting Persaud’s home after he had been murdered.
