Seaman caught stealing phone on camera – court hears

A seaman who was allegedly caught on camera stealing a cellphone was on Monday placed on $70,000 bail at a city court, where he denied the charge. It is alleged that on September 11, Irvin Hubbard, 49, of Lot 4 Grove Public Road, while at Houston wharf, stole a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, valued $75,000, from Lorenzo Hamilton.

Hubbard pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Although prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that Hubbard had been seen on security camera footage committing the act, he did not object to bail being granted to the man as long as it was a substantial amount.

Hubbard was subsequently placed on $70,000 bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan and the matter was adjourned to October 14, for statements.
