Albouystown man shot twice

A man is nursing two gunshot wounds to his leg, managing to dodge four other six bullets that were fired at him in Albouys-town yesterday.

According to a police press release, Anton Johnson, 22, of Indepen-dence Boulevard, Albouys-town, was in front of his home when shots were discharged at him by a man driving by in a vehicle. He was hit to his left foot and was rushed to the George-town Public Hospital where he was treated.

However, Johnson told this newspaper that he was hanging out with some friends on James Street, Albouystown around 12 am. He said that the man who shot him is known to the group of people as he lives several corners away from where the incident happened.

“We were all making jokes and troubling one another and like he start to take it serious on me,” Johnson said. He said that the man got “agitated” and made a phone call and then left.

“All of a sudden like 10 minutes [later] he come back with he friend in a car and start approaching me and I see like he got something he was pulling out of he waist so I start to run,” he said, recalling the frightening moment he ran away from the shooter. He said that after he started to run along James Street, the man opened fire on him. “I running and he firing like he mad behind me and I scared, scared. I even fall down couple times and bruise up me foot. I run for me life and he keep shooting behind me,” Johnson said.

He related that the man unloaded six shots at him but only two caught him in his left leg. He said in a bid to escape the bullets he had to jump across several trenches and escape a dog that started chasing him. He said he finally fell to the ground at King Edward Street and was subsequently rushed to the George-town Hospital.

Johnson said he is convinced that the incident was an execution attempt as the man later told several of his friends that he wants “to put a bag over me head.”

Johnson did not sustain any serious injuries and was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon. However, his family told Stabroek News that they know the man who tried to kill Johnson and that he passed their home several times during the day in different cars.

“I hear he tell somebody that he want to meet me to talk to me but I don’t want to,” Johnson’s mother said. She said that she was told by some persons that the man is offering to settle the matter with money but she is not interested.
