Accused in rape of minor acquitted

A  jury on Wednesday found Compton Bourne not guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl back in 2010.

The allegation against Bourne was that on August 22nd, 2010, in Demerara, he raped a child under the age of 16.

The unrepresented Bourne had denied the indictment when it was read to him by the court at the commencement of his trial.

The proceedings were held in-camera before Justice Roxane George, who presided over the matter at the High Court in Georgetown.

The state’s case was presented by attorneys Diana Kaulesar and Shawnette Austin.
