West Indians find it very difficult to recognize their top cricketers as heroes

Dear Editor,

To some Guyanese the bad experiences that Chanderpaul is reported to have had at his country`s international airport reflect some sort of racial animus. I do not know enough to offer an opinion, but I feel absolutely safe in making the following observations:

Almost universally, the wrong type of people tend to be hired as police and immigration officers.

West Indians find it very difficult to acknowledge their top cricketers as heroes deserving of special treatment. That Chanderpaul is not recognized as a VIP throughout the Caribbean is a disgrace.

Yours faithfully,

Romain Pitt
