Bandits rob city carwash

Two bandits, who posed as customers, pulled off the brazen robbery of a city carwash on Sunday afternoon.

According to one of the employees of the Mingles car wash, located near Garnett and Sheriff streets, the attack occurred shortly after the men rode up around 1.30 pm on a CG motorcycle and inquired the cost to wash the cycle.

“One of them ask me how much to wash the bike and I seh $500 and they seh they only got $400. I seh is alright man, don’t worry about the $100, I gon wash it,” the worker, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News yesterday.

He said when he was about to start washing the bike, one of the men pulled out a gun and rushed to his boss, who was some 10 feet away.

“I wanted to run, you know, but then he pointed the gun at he [his boss] head and took away his gun, a chain, money, and other things,” he recalled. He said after they robbed his boss they quickly jumped on to the cycle and sped away.

“These criminals getting braver by the day. I don’t understand. They must’ve been scouting the place out ’cause it’s usually packed on an afternoon like that but yesterday it wasn’t. Only one car was there at the bay and like they notice that and decided to target we,” another employee added.

The two men managed to escape with a gun, about $60,000, and other items.

The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from a camera that was setup at the junction.
