‘Fineman’ gang member held over `Warlock’ murder – police

The police yesterday apprehended a man who is currently being questioned in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Dexter Griffith, who was shot dead in East Ruimveldt last Tuesday evening.

This is according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who yesterday said that the suspect was recently released from prison and was also a member of the ‘Fineman’ gang. This gang was named after the notorious Rondell Rawlins who terrorised the country for several years prior to his death in 2008.

According to a police press release, ranks yesterday morning arrested a man at Second Street, Agricola, who had in his possession an unlicensed .38 revolver with six matching rounds and two .32 rounds. He was also wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Griffith, the release added.

A police release on the murder had stated that at about 19:45 hrs on 29th September, Griffith, 36, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown was on the roadway in the area, which is also called ‘Warlock’, when a man approached on foot, discharged several shots at him and escaped. He was hit about his body according to the police and died on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Stabroek News had reported that Griffith was shot three times to his left thigh, face and chest

He was among four men who were charged in November, 2007 with committing a sexual offence against a girl. They had appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where Griffith and another man were refused bail.
