Bartica hit by power woes

Over the past two weeks residents of Bartica have been experiencing interruptions in the supply of electricity due to technical problems affecting the Generating Engines at the Bartica Power Generating Facility.

A Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) release yesterday stated that a Containerised Unit (No. 11) was taken up to the location to add capacity as the No. 9 unit was deemed unserviceable while the No 6 Unit remains offline. The release said that work is ongoing to connect the No. 11 Unit to the network and install all necessary components, as such a total outage is necessary today from 8:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs. The power supply is expected to be returned to normalcy on Saturday, October 17, 2015 when the No 11 Unit is expected to be fully functional and operational.

The company said that at present only the No. 10 Unit is in service and as a result the load shedding guide will remain in effect up to October 17, 2015. The following areas will be affected from 8 am to 4 pm Byderabo, Agatash, First Avenue (between Fifth and Ninth Streets), Fifth Street (between Seventh and Fourth Avenues) and First Street (between Fourth and Seventh Avenues). From 4pm to midnight 1-4 Miles Potaro, a portion of Mongrippa Hill and West Indian Housing Scheme. From midnight to 8 am Old Housing Scheme, Mongrippa Hill (Part 2), First Avenue (between First and Fifth Streets) and Third Avenue (between First and Fifth Streets).

GPL is advising residents of Bartica to check their website www.gplinc.net, the GPL Facebook page and TARZIE television station for further updates.
