The government lied

Dear Editor,

Trust has been shattered by lies on the 5th August, 2015. The Minister of Governance told this nation that no salary increases were being considered for government ministers in the immediate future. I was aghast to learn that after reassuring us that this gigantic salary increase wouldn’t occur that it actually did and with not one iota of consultation from the people who entrusted this government to look after their affairs via their vote. Not only did they gazette the increases on 25th September, 2015 but they also backdated the increases effectively to 1st July, 2015 which means that they got their increase after a mere six weeks in office!

How can the public servants trust this government with only a 5% increase in their salaries? Our Teachers, Social Workers, Nurses, Policemen and women’s monthly salaries cannot sustain them. Ministers of our government already have free housing, paid utility bills, maid service paid for by taxpayers and yet still they are giving themselves a 50% increase. This is a heartless decision which smacks of pure self interest! Trust doesn’t come with a refill. Once it’s gone you probably won’t get it back, and if you do, it will never be the same and that’s a fact. My trust has been shattered by the lies and lies breed mistrust. The government lied.

Yours faithfully,
