City to resume control of Stabroek Market car park –Deputy Mayor

The Stabroek Market car park will be under the control of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) after more than seven years of management by the former Ministry of Public Works.

Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green told the Government Information Agency that the Ministry of Public Infrastructure has expressed willingness to return the management of the car park to the city council. Former Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn had taken control of the park in 2008 in a highly contested decision.

The Deputy Mayor said the Ministry has also indicated its willingness to assist the City with repairs to the Stabroek Market wharf.

Chase-Green said that there is also a proposal by the Ministry for a boardwalk on the seawalls and when this is completed it will be handed over to the M&CC.
