Joint charge expected for accused in robbery of judge

A joint charge is expected to be instituted against the five men accused of robbing Land Court Judge Nicola Pierre and her husband.

Damion Millington, Anthony David, Nicholas Narine, Premnauth Samaroo and Warren McKenzie were charged in July with robbing Justice Pierre and her husband Mohamed Chand at their Felicity, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home and discharging a loaded firearm at security guard Raul Peters.

Attorney Nigel Hughes, who is prosecuting the case, was unable to attend the Sparendaam Magis-trate’s Court on Friday, when the proceedings against the men continued before Magistrate Zamilla Ally. However, police prosecutor Stephen Telford informed the court that on the next occasion there is a likelihood that the individual charges against the defendants will be withdrawn and a joint charge will be laid.

The matter was adjourned to November 12th.
