City hails Green conference as success

The Mayor and Councillors (M&CC) of Georgetown has deemed the recently concluded Green Conference and Expo a “great success.”

According to a release from the council “the three-day fun packed edutainment programme encouraged conservation practices while raising awareness about environmental care and maintenance.”

On October 30, the Green Conference afforded several individuals the opportunity to share information relevant to the protection of the environment. These individuals included the Delegation of the European Union to Guyana, Ambassador Jernej Videtic; British High Commissioner to Guyana Greg Quin; Chancellor of the Judiciary Carl Singh; Professor Clive Thomas and Management Consultant, Alvin Doris.

The three-day Expo which followed “gave information and advice for immediate action to be taken as conservation methods, particularly at the individual and domestic levels,” the release said.

The release also noted that the agencies which participated in the Expo “promoted commercially plausible ways to conserve on both energy and cash, while others displayed services promoting green energy and development.

The M&CC expressed pride at the results of its efforts to host the first ever event of this kind.

Town Clerk Royston King in stating his satisfaction with the event noted that “We must express profound gratitude to the agencies that took part in the event. They are the ones who made it successful and we are happy that they were nice enough to come share their eco-friendly products and services with the public.”

He reportedly added that these agencies would have first preference at booth spots next year, at an event which promises to be bigger and better.

Special gratitude was extended to branding agency Impressions “which was responsible for all branding and printing that expressed the Council’s new image”

Declaring that the message of conservation is a global one, the council committed to working overtime in 2016 so as to “educate city dwellers and every Guyanese”.
