Relatives complain about delay at GPHC in test for accident victim

The family of Keith Ross, who was involved in an accident on Tuesday at Number 46 Village, Corentyne yesterday vented their anger at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after there was a delay in a scheduled Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for him.

The accident claimed the lives of two Rose Hall Town residents, Paula Kissoondial, 53, and fifteen year old, Akeem Harry. While, those injured were Ross and two others, Winston Collins, 24, and Jermaine Smartt. Collins is the son of Kissoondial. Stabroek News had previously reported that the accident occurred around 11.30am on Tuesday, as the vehicle PRR 164 in which the five persons were travelling, was navigating a turn along the Number 46 Village Public Road. A tyre apparently blew off, resulting in the driver losing control of the car. The car subsequently flew across a trench, then slammed into the fence of a residential yard and landed on the bridge.

Yesterday at the GPH, Yonette Ross, the mother of Keith was among other relatives present at the GPH who flocked the corridor of the Male Surgical Ward as chaos broke out.

According to Yonette, since her son was transferred to the GPH relatives were present and they were told that he had to undergo a MRI at a private institution. The woman said as a result arrangements were made to have the money paid immediately since she was told that he would undergo it as soon as 6 am yesterday. However, the woman said because of her son’s condition and the pain he kept experiencing, relatives were forced to vent their frustration at the administration over the delay. “He can’t move and they just keep giving he pain tablets and injection and say that he is doing well. I need my son to be look after because we pay our money”, Yonette said. She added, “they telling me they ain’t carry he yet because they ain’t got people to move he over, this is nonsense.” Around 6pm yesterday arrangements were finally being made for him to go to the private hospital for the MRI.
