This Toyota IST plunged into a ditch at Farm, East Bank Essequibo around 2 pm yesterday and the driver and another occupant escaped unhurt.
Reports are that the car toppled several times before landing in the ditch with the wheels up. A tractor was used to pull the car out while public-spirited citizens helped to turn it over.
The driver said he suffered a “blowout” of the front wheel and lost control of the car but persons at the scene said he was in fact, “racing on the road.”
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Toyota Carina that was involved in the ‘race’ tried to overtake but he was forced to pull in because of an oncoming vehicle.
“They were going with a lot of speed and after the driver couldn’t overtake anymore he hit into the side of the other car and “pushed him off the road.”
Meanwhile, residents are angry that drivers would be speeding, especially with the road construction project underway.
