Skeldon estate continues to perform well

The Skeldon sugar estate continues to surpass weekly targets, according to the Guyana Sugar Corpora-tion (GuySuCo).

According to a press statement, GuySuCo is reporting that Skeldon additionally has supplied 1,110,600 KWh of electricity using bagasse fuel to the national grid during the week ending November 6, bringing the annual power supplied to 33,436,630 KWh for the year.
GuySuCo is also reporting that to date sugar production is almost 88% of what is expected for the year.

The sugar corporation stated that for the year so far 199,323 tonnes of sugar have been predicted while the second crop sits at 118,180 tonnes.

GuySuCo in its release stated that Blairmont estate recorded its highest daily production for the crop during the week with 240 tonnes while the Albion, Rose Hall and Enmore Estates missed their weekly targets by just under 10%.

Head of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union, Komal Chand had recently told Stabroek News that work was expected for another four weeks on the majority of the estates.
He told this publication recently that Wales is expected to finish this week, and that the Berbice estates continue to be high performing.

Chand said that the Berbice estates also have canes left over that can now be reaped. While some estates are performing and exceeding expectations for the second crop Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the sugar industry Vibert Parvatan had reported that all seven of the estates were operating at a loss.

The 2015 crop target is 227,443 tonnes a slight reduction from the 241,503 tonnes target that was confirmed by the corporation during the first crop of 2015. The second crop production target is 146,300 tonnes
