Fifth annual Trophy Stall doubles tournament serves off today

The annual Trophy Stall lawn tennis doubles tournament is expected to serve off this morning at the National Racquet Centre.

This is the fifth annual event and features players who were once Novices just a short while ago.

Three times men’s doubles champions Jason Andrews and Anthony Downes will not be playing together in this tournament as Downes will partner Harry Panday and Andrews, Daniel Lopes.

The defending champions are Nicolas Fenty and Leyland Leacock.

The tournament will be coordinated by coaches  Leacock and Andre Erskine and most matches will be played at the National Racquet Centre.

However, matches will also be played at Nash and Le Ressouvenir Tennis Clubs.

Meanwhile, the GTA’s Public Relations Officer Jamal Goodluck noted that the tournament has become the feature doubles event on the GTA’s calendar with some 34 participants registered last year.

The GTA feels that participation will increase substantially as there are now more tennis facilities and clubs.

Devi Sunich of the Trophy Stall recounted the good relations that the Trophy Stall has enjoyed with the association over the years and expressed the intention of the company to continue its support for tennis and sports development.

All players and officials are asked to assemble at the National Racquet Centre by 8:15am.
