A 24-year-old resident of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo has been hospitalized after he crashed into a shop at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara around 11:30 pm on Friday.

The man who was driving a gold-coloured Toyota Mark 11 motorcar was reportedly speeding when he lost control of the car.

He was pulled from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital with what was suspected to be internal injuries.

Residents said the driver smashed into the shop, ‘Savers’ Choice’ where the construction of an extended section was taking place.

They said too that the car broke a “thick concrete slab into four pieces.” That caused it to “bounce on the roof” of the shop and landing on the road again.

The vibration resulted in items from the store, including “expensive perfume” bottles falling and breaking.

Persons connected to the store who did not wish to go on record, said the concrete slab was what prevented the car from connecting directly to the store and causing more damage.

The owners had suffered major losses when their entire store was destroyed by fire in 2010. Then during last year and this year the store was robbed several times.
