T&T hammer St.Lucia 8-1

COUVA, Trinidad, CMC-Trinidad and Tobago’s national women’s football team hammered St.Lucia 8-1, in the second leg of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Olympic qualifying playoff in Couva on Sunday. The result means T&T women have emerged 14-1 winners on aggregate,

Midfielder Ahkeela Mollon unleashed a beaver-trick to lead the onslaught, scoring in the 12th, 32nd, 81st and 83rd minutes at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Defender Lauryn Hutchinson added a brace in the 23rd and 26th minutes while Naomie Guerra scored in the 65th and Sharain Cummings in the 87th.

The St Lucians found a consolation goal in the 58th minute through a penalty from Ellaisa Marquis.

The result means T&T women have emerged 14-1 winners on aggregate, heading into the semi-final phase of the competition which starts today.

“They played very good as a unit and the group is growing more and more every time they are together,” said Coach Anthony Creece.

“It was more pleasing to see the progress and the way in which we took control of the game because we know the next opponent, Jamaica, will be a much different level and we want to be in good shape for that semi-final match”.

T&T face Jamaica in the second semi-final on Wednesday and the winner will meet the winner of the other encounter between Puerto Rico and Guyana in the final on Friday.

The losing semi-finalists will square off in a third place playoff with the top three finishers advancing to the CONCACAF Finals next February in the United States.
