Mahaicony supermarket robbery accused slapped with six charges

Nigel Inniss, one of four alleged bandits who stormed a Mahaicony supermarket late last month and carried out a brazen armed robbery, was yesterday slapped with six charges and was remanded to prison.

Stabroek News was informed that Inniss appeared before Magistrate Suanna Lovell at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court. He faced four counts of robbery, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition.

Inniss returns to court on November 30.

The bandits posing as customers had held the owners of the J Singh and Son Supermarket at Le Raisonable, Mahaicony, at gunpoint and robbed them of cash and jewellery. They also stole the supermarket owner’s vehicle.

After an alarm was raised, residents of the area gave chase and the bandits lost control of the car, crashing into a nearby trench. Inniss was left trapped in the vehicle after the crash while the three others escaped.

Given the severity of the beating he sustained when he was captured, Inniss has lost sight in both eyes.

Subsequent to Inniss being captured the efforts by residents and the police ended with the capture of two other men.

One of the suspects, Stafarei Alexander was charged last week and remanded to prison. He faced six charges, including the murder of Linden businesswoman Shevon Gordon, who was killed in April during a robbery.
