Retrieve Raiders advanced to the final of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) sanctioned Malta Supreme Christmas Open Basketball Championship, defeating Amelia’s Ward Jets via a forfeiture on Monday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-Court in Linden.

“Retrieve Raiders advanced to the final of this year’s Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s Malta Supreme  Christmas Open basketball championship final via a forfeited result for them when their opponents Amelia’s Ward Jets refused to continue their game Monday night with the scores reading in the second quarter 21-10 for the Raiders with 8:17 left,” a release from LABA secretary Joe Chapman stated.

“The other semi-final between Half Mile Bulls and Victory Valley Royals had to be pushed back to last night (Tuesday) after the first quarter ended 11-7 for the Bulls due to rain at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court,” the release added.

The number one ranked Raiders, were undefeated in the tournament to date, after they ended the preliminary round with an unblemished record.

According to the release, the Jets, who lost to the Raiders in the round robin play complained that MSC surface was not proper to play on after rain fell but after giving the Jets some time to consider the conditions the team, through its captain Parrish Cadogan said they would not continue.

According to the release Chapman said that he personally intervened before the game was called off and explained that the game officials were the ones making the call and would determine if the conditions for play were good.

However, according to Chapman, the Jets bluntly refused to continue adding that the matter will be dealt with shortly by the association.
