New Lima Masjid clinic offering free care

Residents of Essequibo will now have access to free medical care following the launch of a clinic at the Lima Masjid Annex on the Essequibo Coast.

The clinic was launched early last month and is a collaborative effort by the Guyana International Relief Organisation (GIRO), the Lima Jamaat and the Ministry of Health, a release said.

The clinic provides free medical care on a monthly basis to the residents of Essequibo, regardless of their religion.

The launch comes after a number of medical outreaches were conducted on the Essequibo Coast and in Wakenaam.

During the outreaches, the demand for a permanent medical clinic was raised.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIRO Shazaad Khan said the clinic’s reality is as a result of careful planning by a number of organisations that aimed for the improvement of the lives of Guyanese.

GIRO also extended thanks to the Ministry of Health for its contribution to the initiative.

Furthermore, Islamic scholar Sheik Shazaad Aleem urged Guyanese to take charge of their health and to continue to pray for good health.

The Lima Medical Clinic will be held on the first Sunday of each month and will be providing a number of services including free medications, referrals to hospitals, and free blood sugar and blood pressure tests.
