Essequibo housewife admits to being cocaine dealer

A housewife, who says she was selling drugs in order to take care of herself and her three children, will be spending the next four years in jail.

Jennifer Ramcharran, of Westbury, Essequibo Coast, found herself facing a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking after police, acting in information, searched her home and found the drug hidden in her oven.

“Meh husband is a alcoholic and he don’t wuk, so me does sell the drugs to mind me and meh three chiren,” Ramcharan told Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Charity Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

According to the police, during a search of the woman’s home on Saturday they found 10.2 grammes of cocaine, which was wrapped in aluminum foil, hidden in her oven.

Police also say that when Ramcharran was told of the offence, she admitted to it, resulting in her subsequent arrest.

After the unrepresented Ramcharran pleaded guilty to the charge, Magistrate Scarce sentenced her to four years in prison and fined her $30,000.
