Digicel takes five Mash prizes, ministries also do well

Digicel took five prizes in the 2015 Mash Float Parade and Costume competition.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s Mash Secretariat, 35 prizes were given in the 2015 competition of which Digicel carted off the most.

Four prizes were available in the Individual pieces category: King, Queen, Male and female of which the Ministry of Education was crowned King and Digicel took the remaining three prizes.

There were three categories vying under the Full Costume section: Small, Medium and large. Under the small category, the Ministry of Education won the top honours, with the Ministry of Agriculture taking second and Region Five, third.

The Medium category had as its winners Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, the second place went to the Ministry of Tourism and Region Ten took third. Digicel topped the Large Full Costume prize and the second place went to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

The other categories were Semi Costume (small, medium and large), Floats and finally the Regional Competition which itself consisted of three separate categories – Full Costume, Semi-Costume and Float.

In the large Semi-Costume category, the military arm showed its strength through the Guyana Police Force as it took first place, the second and third places went to the People’s Progressive Party and Guyana Youth and Student Movement respectively.

The small Semi-Costume category had the Ministry of Housing and Water as first, Ministry of Local Government in second place and Slingshot third. Digicel again took top honours in the medium Semi-Costume category with the Ministry of Health as second and the third spot taken by Region Six.

Floats Non Commercial produced the following results: Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, first place; Ministry of Local Government second and Slingshot third.

In the Regional competition, the Non-Commercial Float winners were Ministry of Local Government. The Semi-Costume had Region Four crowned as Male Champions and Region Ten Female Champions in the Individual category while Region Three and Six were crowned King and Queen respectively in the same category.

Although no region in particular dominated the Regional competition, Region Six took its second prize in the medium Semi-Costume category and the Ministry of Local Government were winners of the small semi-costume.

The final outcome of the Regional competition had Region Five as winners of the small Full Costume category. Region Ten were first place winners in the medium Full Costume, while Region Four came in second and Region Three placed third.
