Labourer charged with murder of dismembered woman

Labourer Imran Ramsaywack was yesterday charged with the murder of Samantha Benjamin, the Buxton woman whose dismembered remains were found at the Annandale foreshore.

Ramsaywack, 21, of Lot 7, Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice, kept a cool disposition when he appeared before

Magistrate Zamilla Ally at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where the indictment against him was read. The man was not required to plead and he was remanded to prison until May 4th, when the case will be heard at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

When Ramsaywack heard this, he asked the magistrate if she could allow him to visit Berbice. “That’s not up to me, sir,” she, however, explained.

Upon leaving the courtroom, Ramsaywack started to smile and chuckle when he saw media operatives outside with their cameras.

Two other men, who Ramsaywack says helped to kill the woman, are still in police custody.

Benjamin, a United States citizen, was proprietor of a boutique in the Vendor’s Mall on Water Street.

Her dismembered body was found at the Annandale foreshore on the morning of March 26. The head, legs and arms were found later at the foreshore after the water receded.
