A decision has been made on the controversial Atlantic Hotel Inc board, according to Minister of State Joseph Harmon, who says that information will be released after the matter goes to Cabinet.
During his post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday Stabroek News inquired specifically about the board and its chairman Winston Brassington. However, Harmon said the committee that is looking at all of the boards has met and a position has been taken on the Atlantic Hotel board and several other boards.
“We are going to make those positions known very soon because there is a process by which we do these things that… The subject ministers would make their recommendations, a sub-committee of cabinet deliberates on it, it goes to Cabinet, Cabinet approves and then we release the information,” the minister said.
He said at the level of the sub-committee certain positions have been arrived at on many of the boards. He pointed out that the lives of certain boards came to an end on June 30 and as such they are motivated by that timeline. The more important boards will be given priority. Atlantic Hotel Inc is the parent company of the Marriott Hotel. Government has said repeatedly that it has no confidence in Brassington and that he will at some pointy be removed as chairman of the AHI board. Brassington is also the head of the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL).
