Businesswoman asks court to free man accused of stealing her chain

The victim of a larceny attempted to have the charge against the suspect in the crime dismissed on Wednesday.

Crystal Williams told city magistrate Ann McLennan that she has a business to look after and would rather not pursue the charge against Dexroy Fredericks, the man accused of stealing her $90,000 gold chain.

Fredericks, 20, of 101 Mandela Avenue, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that he committed the crime on August 10th, at William Street, Kitty.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that the chain had not been recovered but did not object to bail being granted to Fredericks, a Beharry salesman, as long as it was a substantial amount.

Williams, however, subsequently requested that the charge against Fredericks be dropped.

Magistrate McLennan, however, stated that the reasons she gave were not enough to grant a dismissal and ordered that Fredericks be placed on $70,000 bail.

The matter was adjourned to August 27th.
