Five Corentyne men fined $7,500 for driving under the influence

Five more cases of driving under the influence (DUI) on the Corentyne have led to fines of $7,500 for each of the offenders.

The size of the fine has been criticised as being of little impact on DUI offenders. The police said yesterday that Lancelot Sandy of Lot 112 No. 65 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2015-07-04 while driving motor cycle CG 3006 on the No. 62 Public Road, Corentyne. He was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court on 2015-07-07 where he pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.

Rajendranauth Besember of Number 55 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2015-07-07 while driving motor vehicle PLL 4692 on the Number 62 Village Public Road, Corentyne, the police said. He was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court on 2015-07-08 where he pleaded guilty. He was fined $7,500.

Meanwhile, O’Neal Suknudun of Skeldon, Corentyne, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2015-07-05 while driving motor vehicle CE 7704 on the Number 78 Village Public Road, Corriverton.

The police said that he was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared in the Springlands Magistrate Court on 2015-07-07 where he pleaded guilty. He was fined $7,500.

Hamlall Deo Hilbaran of Number 65 Village, Corentyne, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2015-07-06 while driving motor vehicle PBB 6248 on the Number 65 Village Public Road, the police stated.

He was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court on 2015-07-07 where he pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.

The police say that Harnarine Bhem of Lot 133 Section A, Number 59 Village, Corentyne, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2015-07-03 while driving motor vehicle GRR 7108 on the Number 62 Village Public Road. He was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court on 2015-07-08. He pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.
