The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court where he was accused of murdering 28-year-old Kevon George of Bare Root, East Coast Demerara.

He was subsequently remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court for January 28, 2015 when other charges are likely to be read.

The teen was accused of breaking and entering George’s home and stealing several items. After some of the items were returned by the teen’s father, a member of George’s family had confronted him on Sunday about returning the remaining items to which he had reacted rudely. George had decided to take matters into his own hands and confronted the boy when an argument and a scuffle ensued between the two. The teen subsequently pulled a knife and allegedly stabbed George to his neck and eye. George was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead and the boy was turned into the police by his father.
