No arrests yet; cops still to find motive for Hamid’s murder

Police are yet to make an arrest in the murder of Regent Street businessman Farouk Hamid and are still trying to ascertain the motive for the killing.

A police official said yesterday that the matter is still under investigation and based on what they have gathered so far, the killer was someone who knew the man’s dogs. It was explained that neighbours heard no barking in the hours prior to the discovery of the body.

There have been reports that the man may have been a victim of a robbery. The police official said that the businessman’s gun is missing but investigators are not sure if it has been stolen.

Hamid who owned Hamson’s General Store was discovered by his reputed wife in the backyard of his Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara home around 9 am last Thursday. The woman had gone to the home after she failed to make contact with him.

His brother Fazil had told the media that the man had a previous argument with a former employee but he could not say when it occurred. He opted not to disclose to the media what the argument was about.

A post-mortem examination conducted last Friday revealed that he died from a stab wound to his heart. Based on the information from the police, the man also sustained several wounds to the face.
