Six more plead guilty to DUI, fined

Police charged six more men with driving under the influence of alcohol in the Berbice area. They have all appeared before a magistrate and pleaded guilty and were fined the mandatory $7,500. At least one of the men was driving a minibus.

However, a police press release issued yesterday did not give particulars as to whether any of the vehicles the men were driving had passengers at the time they were stopped and administered breathalyzer tests.

Police said Sasenarine Singh of Lot 1 ‘B’ Number 73 Village, Corentyne, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer while driving motor vehicle CH 4307 on the Number 75 Village Public Road. He was found to be above the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol.

Monooj Persaud of Number 65 Village, Corentyne was also found to be above the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol when he was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer while driving motor vehicle CH 1113 on the Number 66 Village Public Road.

Similarly, Atmanand Ramgolam of Lot 98 Rampoor Village, Corentyne, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer while driving motor vehicle CH 4958 on the Skeldon Public Road, Corentyne. He was found to be above the legal limit.

Singh, Persaud and Ramgolam, police said, appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Kingston Archibald of Lot 28 Number 41 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer while driving motor vehicle PGG 6631 at De Edward Village, WCB. He was found to be above the legal limit, police said.

Archibald appeared before the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court as did Ishwar Parsram of Lot 2 New Scheme, Bushlot, WCB, who was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer while driving motor vehicle BRR 4318 on the Bushlot Access Road.

Police said too that Rafmat Masumalli of Lot 6 Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer while driving motor vehicle GTT 1590 on the Kildonan Public Road, Corriverton. He was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
