Defending champs lock horns with Bishops’ High

Defending champs Lodge Secondary will be in action today when the round of 16 stage in the third annual Milo/Petra Organization Secondary Schools u-20 football tourney begins at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.

The Jamoon Street unit will attempt to book their spot in the quarterfinal round when they lock horns with Bishops’ High from 14:00hrs.  The final fixture of the day is also expected to be a closely contested affair when South Ruimveldt opposes arch-rivals North Ruimveldt from 15:30hrs.

In the opening match of the day, Kingston Secondary will oppose St. Mary’s High from 11:00hrs while the second fixture will witness Mae’s Secondary opposing Dolphin Secondary from 12:30hrs.

The action will continue tomorrow at the same venue with the remaining round of 16 fixtures. In the opening matchup, Queen’s College will oppose Morgan Learning Centre from 11:00hrs while Queenstown Secondary will tackle East Ruimveldt from 12:30hrs in the second match.

In the third fixture, newcomers St. Joseph’s High will tackle former champs St. George’s Secondary from 14:00hrs while tourney favourites Chase Academy will oppose Richard Ishmael in the final fixture at 15:30hrs.

Winners of the event will pocket the championship trophy and $500,000 towards the building of any school project while the second, third and fourth placed sides will pocket $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively towards the funding of a school venture and the corresponding accolade.

On the individual side, awards will be given for the event’s most valuable player, highest goal scorer and best goal keeper while four full scholarships to attend Chase Academy free of cost will also be up for grabs.
