LTI trounces Mackenzie High to capture title

Linden Technical Institute (LTI) were crowned the Victory Valley Royals organized Secondary Schools Basketball champs, dismantling Mackenzie High School by an 84-34 score line on Wednesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court in Linden.

It was a shooting display from national forward Terron Welch as he singlehandedly outscored his opponents by registering a staggering 41 points, 10 steals and nine rebounds. Assisting with 21 points in the win was Dennis Niles.

On the other hand, Tahquille Johnson was the only player to register double digits in the loss as he netted 12 points. In the third place playoff, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary squeaked past New Silver City Secondary by a 40-36 margin.

Daniel Lee led the winners with 12 points while Akini Wilson supported with 10 points. Netting 12 points in the loss was Donovan Paddy. In the individual award section, Welch was adjudged the most valuable player (MVP) for the final.

He also received the most assists and scoring champion awards respectively. Finishing in the second, third and fourth positions in the scoring champion awards were Tyrese Mitchell, Wilson and Paddy respectively.

Receiving the most rebounds accolade was Niles while Audley Innis received the most blocks accolade for his 14 rejections. Receiving the most disciplined team award was Christianburg/Wismar Secondary while Malcolm James of aforesaid school was adjudged coach of the tourney.
